TAMPICO
Tampico, the second most important commercial port along the Gulf of
Mexico, is located on the southeastern tip of Tamaulipas, 254 km
(157 mi) southeast of state capital Ciudad Victoria. The city has a
humid subtropical climate, with an average year-round
temperature of
24º C (75º F). Known
primarily for
its bustling
commercial activity
along the
port, Tampico also
offers
architectural, archaeological
and natural
attractions, making
it one
of the
region’s main
tourist
destinations. Among
some of
the most
notable sights are
the Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepcion
de Tampico (Tampico Cathedral),
the Edificio de la Aduana
Maritima (Maritime
Customs Building),
a pyramid known
as Las Flores (The
Flowers), and
the nature
areas near
Playa Miramar (Miramar Beach)
and La Laguna del Carpintero (Carpintero
Lagoon), where

water sports.
In Tampico’s surrounding

the Laguna El
Chairel (Chairel
