The city of Kailua-Kona, or simply
called Kona, is a seaside town located at
the bottom of the Hualalai Volcano. In
ancient times, this area was considered the
premier place to live due to the excellent
weather and good water. The Hawaiian royalty
called this place home, and later
missionaries built churches and residences
turning the tiny fishing village into a
small seaport.
Today visitors still enjoy the warm weather
and the many outdoor recreational
activities. Surfing, fishing, diving,
boating, snorkeling and swimming are all
popular sports, as are hiking, biking, and
caving. There are also many important
cultural sites in the town and impressive
National Parks.
