Marseille is the oldest city in France and one of the oldest cities in Europe. It is marked by a long and complicated history starting around 600 BC with the Phoenicians. Today its large population is a real melting pot of different cultures: French, North Africans, Italians, Comoros and Spanish.

It is a very lively industrial port city. It is not what you would call a pretty city but it makes up for it in character. This is a real city with real people. From colourful markets that will make you feel like you are in Africa, to the Calanques (fjords), from the Panier area to the Vieux-Port and the Corniche Marseille has definitely a lot to offer.
